DC Trip: Day 1 (by Jennifer)

Pictures from the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA:

Check out the architecture of the building. You can see it from the highway.

The mannequins were so real looking! Kind of freaky.

The actual US flag that was pictured in the famous "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" photo. Because the flag is delicate and such a treasure to American military history, museum guests are prohibited from taking photos with flash because the flash could damage it. The next picture is a statue rendition of the famous photo.

Our second and last stop of the day was the Arlington National Cemetary:

Grandma asked our tour bus driver how many graves there were total, and he said about 400,000.

Beautiful view of the city from the cemetery's coliseum.

The most interesting part of the tour... the changing of the guard ceremony. A tribute to all soldiers killed in war who aren't able to be identified, symbolized by the tomb of one unknown soldier.

Unfortunately I didn't snap any pictures of the Kennedy grave site, but I think Peter did and will post them later!

The night ended with a delicious meal with Joanna and Joanna's mom at this korean restaurant called Jang Won. Then we got dessert at Shilla bakery!

Now Peter and I are spending quality cousin time with Joanna until we fall asleep.

Tomorrow we're going to the Smithsonian! YAY, I've never been :)
